Simpsons Channel: Next Generation

Welcome to the next generation of Simpsons Channel. Today marks a huge change in the site cosmetically, but more importantly, a change behind the scenes, which brings the site up to the standards you expect from news websites today. You are now viewing Simpsons Channel v.13, running off WordPress.

What does this mean for the website? I’ll tell you.

  • Categorized news for easier reference and management
  • Quicker and easier to update, more automation
  • Improved comments system, with avatars, profiles and greater spam moderation (as requested by our regulars)
  • Improved stability, and a content management system based off a thriving development community.
  • Multi-user base for more news contributors.

While our entire news archive survived the switch, there was unfortunately no way of retaining the users and comments made in the last couple of years. The sad fact is, this was always going to happen, and was the product of using a discontinued content management system which did not allow our website to grow. It’s happened, but we’ve made a clean slate and I invite all previous users to sign up for an account here, where you now get the requested features of user profiles and avatars.

We also ask that any websites hosting our RSS feed update their links to the new feed. It is available by clicking the RSS icon at the top of any page.

Please note that the website is still in beta mode. We’re still putting categories and tags on old posts and everything will be complete in the coming weeks.

Love the new design ! However, not a fan of WordPress. I have had horrible experience with it. Best of luck Adam !

The problem I encountered with WordPress was two years ago while I was creating a blog for a local newspaper editro. It was extremely difficult to make an advanced design while keeping functionality. There was a lot of coding involved that was completely different from their templates. That took a while to get correct… and then the SPAM began ! I’m not sure how WordPress performs now but I still see SPAM going through on blogs using it all the time.

I dont know if the spammers have a way around this, but no new users have their posts viewable unless they have at least one comment that has been approved by an administrator. So if the spam comes in, they will be rejected before you see it.

I’ve got past the coding the template part so I guess I’m safe in that regard.

And Chris, what if I were to say if it stayed on the old script I was a week from shutting the website down completely. Either way, you stop viewing the site, so guess you’ll have to deal with it.

    Fine, i’ll go
btw i’ve been visiting this site for 4 years now.
There are many other sites that get simpsons news quicker than here anyway but i thought this site seemed better.
You’se are all way too old to go on this anyway

I’m actually quite young Chris from a presumed Coventry.

Love the new design, s’pose will take a while getting used to, but I like the way it looks. Quality stuff.

wow. this site got really cool.

Adam, good idea making each member become verified before showing their posts. This will indeed stop 99% of SPAM. It just gets annoying having to log in and verify when there are lots of users who view the website. I guess there is no way around putting in the extra effort to avoid SPAM. It’s a strong compromise.

  15. the drunken guy 18 September 2008 at 11:50 am #

Legally, datoupee, you just said it will stop 99% of a tinned meat, SPAM. By using capitals you mean the meat; lowercase the other meaning

  16. Brian 18 September 2008 at 2:34 pm #

    haha.

  17. datoupee 18 September 2008 at 8:40 pm #

I thought we were referring to SPAM as a food ? I’ll be more careful next time!

  18. Adam 19 September 2008 at 1:26 pm #

Surely, with all of this free advertising SPAM are getting, I’d be disappointed if I wasn’t all of a sudden overloaded with an influx of SPAM.

I like it. It’s different and more organized. Sure, I can’t use it on my laptop because it’s stupid, but this is good too. It took me a while to find a lot of things, but I can adjust. Good job, Adam! It’s really cool this time.

Why do people write capital letter spam, not just spam?

And I think I should congratulate Ivan and Brian (I believe) who are now editors for the site, I believe Brian has written a few news posts already. Well done.

  21. Brian 20 September 2008 at 3:25 pm #

Thanks Gaulty, it’s a pleasure to write for it:)
