Russian television channel 2×2 will bow to state pressure on September 22nd when it removes The Simpsons from Russian television screens for the forseeable future, or maybe even for good.

The Simpsons is just one of twelve shows which the Russian government believe to be extremist and harmful to children, calling for their removal from the channel after complaints from Russian religious fundamentalist groups. Roman Sarkisov, 2×2’s general director, announced that the channel would be appealing complaints against them via court. Unless these cases are won by the 2×2 channel, these shows will never resume.

“Family Guy”, “South Park”, MTV’s “Drawn Together” and “Angry Kid” will also be removed.

The cartoons “promote violence and cruelty, pornography, anti-social behavior, abound with scenes of mayhem, the infliction of physical and ethical suffering, and are aimed at invoking fear, panic and terror in children,” said the Russian prosecutors.

The channel has responded to the charges by gathering signatures in support of its broadcasts. The management has also received official approval to hold several demonstrations, and will hold a free concert to raise awareness of the issue in St. Petersburg on September 22nd.

Personally, I really think this is truly dumb. I mean, why did they wait this long to do it? They really must have been slow at catching on lol.

The really stupid part is that it’s probably going to be replaced by Baywatch.

I can’t believe everyone is getting rid of this show. First it’s replaced by that Bay Watch thing a couple of months ago, and now it’s banned from Russia because of cruelty, violence, and other stupid stuff. It’s comedy, what do you expect?

Soon, it’ll be China (if they even have that), then France, soon Canada, and Great Britian. Eventually Australlia, then America. Sorry to anyone who lives anywhere over there, it’s just suggestions. You never know, America might be next.

To be fair though swiss, why would the ban it in America when its made in America and with such a huge following in America?

This situation in Russia could easily be dealt with a simple little thing called watershed.

Looking at that link adam, I thought about something

‘claiming that the cartoons popularize violence, drugs and homosexuality.’

Violence, to be fair, very rarely severe violence imo aside from the THOH

    Drugs, 1 episode

    Homosexuality, 1 episode

I think that the Russians who wanted all this shows banned need to watch the episode from South Park; the one that tells parents to stop wasting their time trying to censor the world, and tells them to start educating, and paying attention to their own kids instead.

Education is the key, not censorship!!!

This is really stupid and pointless. If parent’s don’t want them kids watching it, the parents stop their kids from watching it. There are loads of adults that watch it. And loads of kids around 11, 12 that don’t watch because their is not enough violence etc. and think “Family Guy” is cooler. And who cares about “international censoring” anyway. (I say, Fuck off Russia)

“the infliction of physical and ethical suffering, and are aimed at invoking fear, panic and terror”…..the Simpsons?…I thought that was supposed to be the Kremlin’s job.

Ok, well to Gaulty, what I meant was that it will be cancelled not banned. It would never be banned here in the states.

    Okay, fair enough.
