Season 20 Coming To DVD/Blu-Ray

season20dvd-smallNo, that is not a typo. While Season Twelve of The Simpsons was released last month, it appears that Fox are keen to go back to a two-per-year release plan by rushing a release of The Complete Twentieth Season, possibly in time for Christmas 2009. This news was first rumoured by TVShowsOnDVD yesterday when they discovered Amazon had added pre-order information for the show on both DVD and Blu-ray format. The show has been broadcast in high definition since the middle of Season 20, allowing for Fox to cash in on Blu-Ray sales, but instead of waiting til 2016 for Season 20 to come around, it seems likely that from now on an older season as well as the previously aired season will be released every year.

So is it just a rumour? That seems not to be the case after a KFC promotion for The Simpsons Ride is giving away the Twentieth Season DVD as runner up prizes. And when is that contest drawn? November 2009. So it seems as if Fox have been keeping this one under their hats, but a Christmas release is almost certain. We’ll give you more details as soon as we ‘re told!

Wow! That’s awesome! I never would’ve guessed Fox would decide to skip seasons 13-19 and jump straight to season 20.

I have a picture of the box set here:http://simpsonfever.wordpress.com/2009/10/08/season-20-dvds-coming-out-this-year/

That is not the cover. Please do not spread false information without clarifying its legitimacy.

finally the new seasons are being released but since HD was from the mid season 20 does that mean only half of the season is on blu-ray or is the whole thing on the blu-ray?

  5. Adam 8 October 2009 at 2:19 am #

The whole thing will be on the blu-ray. There just wont be any high definition on those episodes.

This is a dumb idea. I wanted the seasons to continue in the order for what they have been in for nearly a decade. Plus I am not even going to be interested in these episodes so soon because this season just ended! Would have enjoyed this set coming out in sometime around 2013 and not now.

“Plus I am not even going to be interested in these episodes so soon because this season just ended!”

Pretty much every current show release dvd/blue-ray boxes a few months after the respective season ends. No big deal, it only makes sense.

Hmmm, not the best way to do these things if I’m honest. 2 a year for the amount of seasons its been going was always going to be slow, a better way would have been 3 a year.

What I also am not a fan of is the fact its going to be rushing to finish it. I want good quality DVD/Bluray to add to my collection, not something that all it had on the box is just 20 episodes.

I also don’t like the fact its skipping from 13 to 20, will look stupid on the collection. But if there is a positive out of it, at least it is coming out on Blu-Ray.

Also, 2 per year could simply mean one post Season 20 and one post Season 12. So you don’t get a seamless collection until (yikes!) mid-2016.

Does anyone know where I can get custom covers for each disk on season 11/12. I put each of the disks in slimline DVD cases but they look irregular compared to seasons 1-10. Also, is there a custom box featuring the artwork but in the size of seasons 2-10 so they can fit inside?

Because the simpsons dvds have a pattern of keeping the same style every 5 seasons, I wonder if seasons 16-19 will have the same look as season 20?

I hope it comes out in the UK!

    That’s cool!

So I guess they are doing it like this…in 2010, will be season 13 in the summer and season 21 by Christmas, and so on, right?

I’ve tried to look for it on amazon but it’s not there.
Anyway if it’s not just a rumour then i hope it comes to the uk.

Great! I loved this season and I’m excited to get it. I like the ox art, which has been posted on Amazon.com. I just hope the packaging is better.

    will they make 13-19?

  15. Nick 9 October 2009 at 10:14 pm #

I’m not a fan of this because I like how the commentaries have been coming years after the episode airs — so there’s a lot more to talk about, i.e., what happened to the guest stars or the characters in the following years, etc.

if they launch it (sorry for my english) worldwide, it’s just stupid.
there plenty of countrys that don’t even have season 15-20 airing on theyr FOX, here in portugal we’re only on 17, so…

now I’m confused… is this a good or a bad thing to other countrys besides USA????

i wonder when is comíng to eroupe and sweden

They are releasing it on Jan 12th to go along with the 20th anniversary special that will air on tv around that time. I’m thrilled that it will be on Blu Ray but I really hope they don’t give us a set with only 1 special feature.

this is a bunch of garbage… we should not have to wait another year for season 13 (the last truly decent there was of this show) while they crank out their “commemorative” garbage season 20 dvd… hd or blu ray or whatever their excuse, it is an insult to those of us who remember when it wasn’t an insult to call someone a Simpsons’ fan! shame on you fox and whatever your reason (remastering season 13 takes more time than releasing ready to go crap season 20, for example), it doesn’t take away the sting of loyally watching your show, buying your products (and i mean more than just dvds–all merch), going to your crappy simpsons universal ride, etc… no wonder respect has left the simpsons’ camp long, long ago.

Here’s hoping that all the episodes have commentary. If commentary is included, I wonder if it will be really interesting, or just really dull. Sometimes the best commentaries are the writers and producers struggling to remember facts about stories – I wonder if the stories will have the same charm if they are told fresh from memory. Just a thought.

Goty: “Pretty much every current show release dvd/blue-ray boxes a few months after the respective season ends. No big deal, it only makes sense”

Really? Are you half-witted? Do you not understand that this has been the argument for the simpsons dvds since they started putting out them out in 2001 with SEASON ONE? And we, the viewers who watched that very first episode on Fox when the show started, had to suffer through once a year releases until they finally got around to releasing 2 sets per year in, oh, I don’t know starting with season 6? We’ve been waiting around for a decade. Now half of my collection is going to be on DVD and the other half on bluray? Why don’t they just go all digital? Why even screw around with this anymore. No big deal. Pff. To the real fans of the show, it’s a big deal.
