Ratings: Postcards From The Wedge

Last night’s new episode ‘Postcards From The Wedge’ drew an audience of 5.23 million viewers – dangerously close to its all-time lowest figures. In fact, it had the third-lowest ratings on record. Unlike the previous lows this season, the show did not run against “event television” such as the Grammy’s or a major sporting event. Here’s the breakdown for the half-hour:

CBS – The Amazing Race (10.14 million)
ABC – Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (7.90 million)
NBC – Minute To Win It (6.60 million)
FOX – The Simpsons (5.23 million)

As you can see, the show came fourth in its time slot  against weak competition. A repeat of ‘The Great Wife Hope’ at 8.30pm fared slightly better, with 5.36 million viewers and a new Family Guy at 9.00 had 6.7 million viewers. The biggest event for the night, Undercover Boss on CBS (13.99 million) didn’t start til 9:00pm.  The episode now joins the least-watched list.

1. “Million Dollar Maybe” (season 21) – 5.11 million
2. “Four Great Women and a Manicure” (season 20) – 5.16 million
3. “Postcards From The Wedge” (season 21) 5.23 million
4. “Lisa the Drama Queen” (season 20) – 5.75 million
5. “Coming To Homerica” (season 20) – 5.86 million

A new episode, ‘Stealing First Base’, airs next weekend. If you haven’t already, remember to rate the ‘Postcards From The Wedge’ using our poll below.

  4. Marbat 15 March 2010 at 8:38 pm #

it started out good and had some good jokes in beetween, but i think that the story wasn’t that great.
    overall a good episode 7.5/10 75/100 750/1000…..

    • nick-tick-97 16 March 2010 at 9:14 am #

lol i don’t mind your ratings marbat but you didn’t have to say it 3 times just with more 0′s every time. lol

on the poles it says 17 votes for “5/5 awesome, one of the best ever” really? if you actually think that maybe you’ve only been watching the simpsons since season 20.

anyway it was a good episode (5/5 :D )but the ratings don’t really show how good the episode was because its just based on what people have seen from other recent episodes and if they bother to watch the simpsons again or something else

  5. Jake X. 15 March 2010 at 10:12 pm #

Had they stuck to the warring parents, I would’ve cared.

    2/5

  6. Brian 16 March 2010 at 6:33 am #

Enjoyed this episode, nice to see an episode not relying upon a wacky storyline and guest stars, as I’ve heard it being said.

  7. Nicolas 16 March 2010 at 8:38 am #

Now the least-watched list contains of episodes from 20. and 21. season. We can only hope that by the end of this season, this black list wont be full with 21. season episodes… It would be pure disaster for the show (probably it’s end too).

  8. Dominic 16 March 2010 at 2:12 pm #

    This was an amazing episode!

I worry for the show now, I think this year will be the last year of the simpsons. Hope not though

  9. Gaulty 16 March 2010 at 3:23 pm #

Are we allowed to worry now? Are we allowed to complain at everyone for the woeful ratings? Or is there something else now that explains it all? No, thought not.

Got thrashed by the opposition, not good enough. I don’t care bout how good the episode was, these ratings are in short, rubbish.

  10. Ashley 16 March 2010 at 3:25 pm #

This episode was a bit naff. But some parts were alright. I liked the Itchy and Scratchy parody of House.

The next episode looks wicked and i hope the ratings will get as high as they used to be.

  11. PG-99 16 March 2010 at 3:51 pm #

The ratings for the second half of the year continue to decline, keeping up with a trend that began a few years ago. But there are a few things to consider.

One, the Simpsons’ lead-in, Til Death, has been atrocious in the ratings. If the show had a better lead-in it would probably do better.

Two, far fewer people watch network TV now. Compared to several years ago these numbers are not good. However, the show still finished a strong second in the key demo of 18-49 year olds, which is its main target audience.

Third, the ratings in the fall were up this year when it had better lead-ins from the NFL.

So, no, I really don’t think the show is in any danger. After all, what would Fox have that could do any better?

  12. Nick 16 March 2010 at 10:02 pm #

Great episode. I think part of the problem with the ratings is with the way Fox has been promoting the episodes lately. A few years ago, I remember seeing commercials telling me to tune into the new Simpsons episode several times a week. I haven’t seen one of those ads in a long time; on Sunday, I wasn’t even sure if a new episode was airing.

“As you can see, the show came fourth in its time slot against weak competition.”

Adam, I get the feeling that you’re enjoying this which kind of bothers me.

Anyways, I really enjoyed this one. Season 21 continues to be awesome.

    • Adam 17 March 2010 at 6:58 pm #

I was summarizing the data above the comment in case people didn’t read it. It doesn’t matter what I write on a low rating week, people will find a way to make me sound like an evil villain.

      • Stan McKingsley 17 March 2010 at 9:29 pm #

ADAM!! YOU ARE THE BIGGEST JERK IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD!!! YOU ARE NOT FIT TO EVEN TALK ABOUT THE SIMPSONS! YOUR SO STUPID!! STOP HATING THE SIMPSONS, FATTIE!!

“OH!! I LIKE FAMILY GUY!!! IT’S THE BEST SHOW IN THE WORLD!!! (BRIAN) I LIKE THE STUPIDEST SHOW IN CREATION!!”

BRIAN AND ADAM NEED TO LEAVE THE SITE FOREVER. ONLY LOYAL SIMPSONS FANS SHOULD BE HERE. NOT STUPID FAMILY GUY FANS. SETH MCFARLANE IS AN IDIOT!!

Morons. The Simpsons always bomb in the spring. Darn right they have a bad lead in.

I’m gonna take a shower and calm down.

        • Brian 18 March 2010 at 4:46 am #

Yes, we’re the morons. If we left the site, the site would no longer exist. If you don’t like the views posted here (despite the fact that this post contained no personal opinions in any shape or form), then stop visiting. It’s as simple as that.

Do you want me to apologize for having an interest in something you don’t like? From your post, I can conclude you’re either an ignorant kid or a very ignorant, immature adult.

          • Stan McKingsley 18 March 2010 at 9:48 am #

I would stop visiting…if another site showed simpsons ratings.

So shut up, Brian!! HA AHHAHAHAHAHA.

        • [rmcc] 18 March 2010 at 10:57 am #

you´re a huge jerk Stan McKingsley, you know that?!
why can’t people enjoy watching two or more tv shows from different creators? I restarted watching McFarlane’s shows and it’s like the simpsons but sometimes it can be really stupid and funless. so, shut up Stan McKingsley and leave Brian and Adam alone, if weren’t for them, the site would probably never been created

          • Stan McKingsley 18 March 2010 at 7:47 pm #

Tsk tsk. So many MacFarlane lovers. What morons, wasting tehir lives. I pity you [rmcc] and Brian.

      • Santos L. Halper 18 March 2010 at 12:46 pm #

Maybe you were just summarizing but the fact that I know you don’t like the new episodes of the show alters my interpretation of your comments. Also, I wouldn’t consider Extreme Makeover and Amazing Race weak competition so it kind of felt like you were making a stretch to say that The Simpsons isn’t good or something.

        • Adam 18 March 2010 at 6:59 pm #

That is not a fact – I only don’t like the BAD new episodes of the show. Could people stop picking at everything I say. The competition was weak given that the argument has been used in previous weeks that ‘event television’ knocked The Simpsons off it’s perch. I purposely wrote this piece as non-opinionated as possible but it still managed to get criticized.

          • Stan McKingsley 18 March 2010 at 7:46 pm #

The reason you get picked on is because you hate The Simpsons and your an IDIOT!!

  14. SeparateVocations 17 March 2010 at 1:24 pm #

Again, the number three scripted show on FOX in the key demographic which is all that matters (and almost entirely determines the dollar value for advertisements)…

    1. American Idol
    2. House
    3. Family Guy
    4. The Simpsons

  15. Brian 18 March 2010 at 9:43 pm #

Well done Stan for proving my earlier point.

    • Stan McKingsley 19 March 2010 at 8:51 am #

      What earlier point, idiot?

    • stewie 27 July 2010 at 3:51 pm #

your right you have the right to like family guy n simpsons i think family guy is better thought but they are both great just ignore the idiot he starts fights because that’s the only company he can get is people who hate him:)

  16. [rmcc] 19 March 2010 at 8:49 pm #

that you Stan are just a immature child, even if you are an adult you have the mind and intellegence of a small child. you watched one episode and you fell in love with the simpsons, than you don’t want at any circunstances that another show wins the simpsons ratings and you insult the others who enjoy both shows.

you should be afaraid of yourself, you little small child.

    • Stan McKingsley 20 March 2010 at 8:32 am #

Stuppidity seems to reign after all here. Huh! Notice how it’s in Family guy fans. My point is proven, you lardbucket you [rmcc]

      • nick-tick-97 20 March 2010 at 2:41 pm #

stan, shut the hell up or get the mother fudge off this site ya…. nah forget it but seriously why is it every week there’s someone harrassing brian or adam or anyone else here!

        • Stan McKingsley 21 March 2010 at 9:11 am #

Nick-Tick 97..I have the right to say what I want! Shut your face!

Can’t wait for Stealing First Base tonight. Hopefully, someone else will report the ratings…

          • Brian 22 March 2010 at 1:25 pm #

There’s only the two of us.

  17. jake 19 March 2010 at 9:00 pm #

  18. Brandon 20 March 2010 at 1:29 am #

I’ve recently read an interview where Matt Groening was talking about making another Simpsons Movie. He said in the interview that the writers don’t like to work harder than they usually do. I think that the writers should either put forth their best effort or just not work for the show. The movie shows that The Simpsons could be better, but the writers today are just lazy. I miss how the old staff members of the show like John Schwartzwelder and Conan O’Brien used to pour their hearts into their work on the show. It really showed. Since Conan doesn’t have the Tonight Show, I was hoping that maybe he’d consider working on The Simpsons again, but I bet I’m just getting my hopes up for nothing.
I’m not really a fan of Family Guy, but I like how Seth at leasts listens to the fans and gives them what they want.

Comparing this episode to the best matereal of the show, it’s a 3/5 at best. I didn’t like how abrupt the ending was. It was a good story though. I would compare the story to about season 13-14 matereal. The old movie that Bart’s class watched gave it an old episode feeling. I really liked that. I hope that The Simpsons at least doesn’t go 100 percent into the 21st century and keeps some of the old stuff like the classroom watching cheesy old movie reels. I miss the old writng staff who actually cared about putting their best effort into the show.

Whether or not Adam or Brian like the show or a paticular episode, they both have every right to voice their opinions. I think people should act more mature and just accept that not everyone is going to have the same opinions. It’s no reason to get bent out of shape and attack one another.

    • eetansk 20 March 2010 at 11:40 am #

Best post here. Also, I want Conan to come back, too. :)

  19. Devix 21 March 2010 at 2:14 am #

I really gotta say—the newest episodes have just been getting better.
The guts, soul, and character of the characters are back.
The future world thing was also a great addition to keep the brain running.

There needs to be a beating over the head of The Simpsons to revive the fan base
—maybe a less cheesy marketting campaign.

No more “the Simpsons are whackier than ever!”
instead show the actual drama and jokes in tiny bits mixed together into some kind of a….
Terrentino via Bart Simpson style. These episodes are better than the last few seasons—you just gotta draw in the new kids.

That was like—billion dollar advice from a 23 year paranoid schizophrenic.

So just take it and run with it—i need more friends to talk to about the simpsons.

I’m losing it over here — holy hell!
