Update: EA Bringing New Simpsons Game to iOS devices

Get out your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad.

EA is rolling out a new game for iOS devices called The Simpsons: Tapped Out.

The premise? Homer causes a nuclear meltdown which destroys the town.  Players are tasked with rebuilding Springfield to their own design.  As players build homes and businesses, familiar Springfield residents will start returning to town.  New quests, objects, and buildings will unlock and be available as the game progresses letting players build and place them in this city-builder style game.

The game will be free to play, with in-app purchases available for those who want to speed-up gameplay.  It’s set to release into Apple’s App Store in a few weeks.

Get ready to grow some Tomacco, burn some Krusty Burgers, and party with Duffman!

Update: The game has officially launched and is live in Apple’s App Store.  It’s getting great reviews.  Tell us what you think.

So it’s clear… this game follows the popular “Freemium” Game Model. The game is free to download and play, but you’ll have to pay to add special buildings and get special characters.

Don’t want to pay real money to have King Toot’s Music Store in your version of Springfield? Try downloading TapJoy which lets you get free in game currency (in this case it will be donuts) by downloading other games. It’s pretty awesome if you like these kinds of games but don’t like paying for this and that.

According to EA, they plan to continually update the game with new quests, characters, and buildings.

It’s already getting amazing reviews (it’s available in the Canadian app store)!

Hi John. As of today, Sunday the 4th of March they have removed the game from the App Store.

Why? Because EA was unprepared for the huge amount of game players. Starting Friday their servers were flooded with players. It caused all kinds of problems and was locking people out of the game and slowing it down considerably for others. So they have removed it from the App Store to prevent new people from downloading and playing it and taking up more server space.

Those who still have the game can continue to play (and I must say it is pretty fun to get to build and design springfield). But it’s not without its bugs. Bugs should be expected of a brand new game… but I have no clue why EA didn’t anticipate so many people playing the game and not have a server that could accommodate so many players.
