Does Matt Groening really need any introduction? His evolution from cantankerous Los Angeles underground cartoonist to the creator of one of the most beloved and influential comic institutions of the past century is already the stuff of legend. In 1977, Groening began writing the long-running comic strip Life In Hell, a cult favorite about the misadventures of various angst-ridden neurotic rabbits, plus Akbar and Jeff, a pint-sized duo who operate or shill for an endless succession of disreputable businesses.

In stores today, Springfield’s merry mischief-maker, Bart Simpson, switches places with Ralph Wiggum on "Take Your Son To Work Day" with surprising and potentially life- threatening results. Then, Bart gets a new roommate when he moves into the retirement home with Grampa. Also, Bart and Nelson start their own pirate radio station, and it is not long before radio talk show host Birch Barlow’s ratings begin to plummet, prompting a "no holds barred" battle over the airwaves.
Ricky Gervais's episode of The Simpsons was a UK ratings winner - claiming Sky One's highest-ever viewing figures for the cartoon. Gervais, 44, voiced the part of an English office manager, Charles, who lives with Marge following a Wife Swap-style reality show. He was asked to pen the episode by US Simpsons creator Matt Groening, a big fan of The Office. 'Homer Simpson: This is Your Wife', was the first time a British writer has been asked to write an episode of the long-running comedy.
A record 2.18 million viewers watched the episode, giving Sky One its highest ever audience for the cartoon comedy. It also became Sky One's second most-watched show following an episode of Friends that attracted 2.8 million in 2000. A new episode of The Simpsons is usually watched by just over one million viewers on Sky One.
Simpsons fans turned away from trilogy episode 'The Wettest Stories Ever Told' this weekend. The episode held just 7.04 million viewers, the lowest-rated episode in two years and second lowest rating on record behind 6.2 million for Season 15's The Way We Weren't. While generally not regarded by fans as a popular episode, the content of The Wettest Stories may not have been responsible for its viewer turn-off as ratings have always moderately decreased towards the end of the season in the last few years. The Simpsons was in fouth place overall at 8:00pm but among adults was the most watched show in the timeslot, so there isn't too much cause for alarm.
- Airs Tonight! When the Simpsons' plans for a nice family outing at the Frying Dutchman turn into a dining disaster, the family tries to salvage the night by telling different stories of disasters at sea. The Simpsons creator Matt Groening has confessed he's hurt British funnyman Ricky Gervais hasn't picked him for a part on hit comedy show, Extras. Despite hailing his cameo on the cult cartoon series the pinnacle of his comedic career, Gervais has failed to return Groening's favor and invite him to star in Extras. And Groening, who admits he's a big fan of the series, can't help but feel snubbed. He says, "He (Gervais) didn't ask me. "It would have been perfect for me because I worked as an extra when I first moved to Los Angeles in 1978." Previous guests on the show include Samuel L. Jackson and Titanic beauty Kate Winslet.

Bart Simpson switched networks for one night, to join forces with Eric Cartman in his quest to get Family Guy pulled off the air. In the South Park episode Cartoon Wars (Part II), A slightly different looking and sounding Bart Simpson exchanged words with Cartman and Kyle regarding the pulling of Family Guy. It is the second time creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker have directly referenced The Simpsons. In a 2002 episode titled 'Simpsons Already Did It,' the creators poked fun at the fact that The Simpsons had ran out of storylines.
But Trey and Matt love The Simpsons, as Trey said following that episode "For some reason people lump South Park and The Simpsons and any animated program together. [It's] unfortunate that we have to be compared to one of the best shows on television ever. We never get compared to Sister, Sister or Small Wonder." The Simpsons Gallery has a great rundown of all the scenes from the ep.
No new episode this weekend, however Fox has released a promotional image for one of the upcoming episodes, Girls Just Want To Have Sums, which airs in two weeks on April 30th. Here's a sneak peak at what the episode might involve.
Fox might be coming late to the Internet party, but it knows how to make an entrance. The network said Thursday that it planned to start making its hit programs such as American Idol, The Simpsons and 24 available online and through video-on-demand services the day after they air. Though Fox has lagged behind the other networks in taking the step to make its shows download-friendly, its plan is different in that it plans to share the revenues generated by the move with its 187 affiliate stations, something rival nets ABC, CBS and NBC do not do. Because of Fox's partnership with its affiliate stations, it will be able to make a greater chunk of its content available for download, whereas the other networks are limited by their current arrangements with their affiliates as to how many shows they can put online.
In a move that has to be a big disappointment to Futurama fans, voice actor Billy West has recanted his earlier statement that the animated series would be returning with new episodes. On his website West apologized, explaining that he'd been misinformed and that 26 new episodes of the show will not be produced as he'd previously announced.
West added that there is still hope for a Futurama DVD project of some kind, as had been rumored before. We'll be sure to keep you updated on any new word of further Futurama projects.
Fame may be fleeting for some, but the Remington Carriage Museum in Cardston, Alta., has been immortalized thanks to a 10-second segment on The Simpsons. "We have a big sign out in front of our place which is electronically programmable and I intend to put on it 'As Seen on the Simpsons,' " said Howard Snyder, the manager of the museum. On Sunday's episode, actor Richard Dean Anderson, is kidnapped by sisters Patty and Selma. But Anderson becomes a nuisance and won't leave.
Selma and Patty then subject him to a series of boring vacation slides, including an image of the front of the museum and a list of the historic carriages inside. "That was great - even though the context was Selma and Patty's boring summer holidays," chuckled Snyder. "To have the image of the statue in front of the museum and the front of the museum and vehicles inside the museum for 10 seconds on something as big as The Simpsons - that's at least a boost to our pride."
A total of 8.20 million viewers watched Sunday's episode "Kiss Kiss Bang Bangalore," a slight increase on last week's figure, but still the second least watched episode this season. CBS won the night overall while ABC came second, followed by NBC and FOX struggling in fourth place. Among adults 18-49, ABC was first, CBS second, and FOX third. The Simpsons and The War At Home came fourth at 8:00pm behind Cold Case, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, and The West Wing. A new episode of Family Guy at 9pm had 7.87 million viewers
- Airs Tonight! Check out another new episode of The Simpsons tonight on Fox. Homer is sent to India to train the replacement employees for the Indian power plant that will replace Springfield's, but becomes power-mad in his new position of authority; Patty and Selma kidnap Richard Dean Anderson (who voices himself), only to have to develop a MacGyver-style scheme in order to get him to leave.
Apparently Isaac Hayes isn’t the only Scientologist that has done voiceover for comedy cartoon characters that can’t take a joke and has no sense of humor when it comes to their controversial religion. Nancy Cartwright, the voice for Bart Simpson, seemingly suffers from the same malady as Hayes reports 7 Days. Perhaps inspired by the creators of South Park, who ridiculed Scientology so successfully, some of The Simpsons writers wanted to have a little fun too.
The proposed line to be spoken by Bart went something like this, “Mormonism? That’s the second freakiest religion in America!” One guess who must be the first “freakiest”? Cartwright certainly got the joke, but she didn’t like it, so the show dumped it according to insiders. So even a purported allusion to Scientology got the axe at the Fox show. "That’s ridiculous…Scripts change all the time as shows are prepared, and what goes into a show and what doesn’t go into a show is based on what’s funny, and that is it," her publicist said.
The aid of a special announcement which eventuated to be the movie trailer wasn't enough to help boost The Simpsons figures on Sunday. Ratings for Million Dollar Abie plummeted to a season-low of 7.83 million viewers. Its the second least watched episode in two years, behind last years 'The Seven Beer Snitch' which had 7.3 million. Coincidentally (or not?), 'Snitch' aired on the very same weekend a year ago.
The FOX network came fourth overall for the night and second among adults. The Simpsons was in fourth place at 8:00pm behind all major competition.
The Simpsons Movie trailer has without a doubt just become the most requested file on the internet within hours of screening during this Sunday night's episode. And as it turns out, many of you are coming to The Simpsons Channel to watch it. Not to disappoint, YouTube is busting the video out to the masses, and you can view the video right here by clicking below.

When his plan fails at the last minute, Grampa gets a new outlook on life and decides to become Springfield's very own matador.
Homer Simpson hit the big screen on Friday in a short teaser trailer announcing The Simpsons movie. The Simpsons teaser debuted prior to the opening of 20th Century Fox's latest animated film "Ice Age: The Meltdown." The clip announces Fox's July 27, 2007 release date for The Simpsons movie.
The animated 25-second clip opens on a giant superhero S. "Leaping his way onto the silver screen," intones a narrator, "the greatest hero in American history!" Cut to Homer Simpson sitting on his couch in his tighty whities. "I forgot what I was supposed to say," he says. The narrator continues, " 'The Simpsons Movie,' coming to the screen, July 27, 2007." "Uh, uh," says Homer, "we better get started."
The Simpsons clip discretely went out to theaters as part of a combo-trailer that includes Fox's "Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties." The same clip is expected to air during "The Simpsons" television show Sunday night. Despite today's 'foolish' date, this news has been confirmed by the hundreds of people who have already seen Ice Age 2.
