Cartwright Not Elected Mayor
The Sun strikes again. Our report last week on Nancy Cartwright becoming Mayor or Northridge California was no more than a misunderstanding based on false information printed in UK tabloid The Sun. Urban Legend site Snopes.com investigated the issue, with their findings backing up their assumption that she was actually named honorary mayor through the Northridge Chamber of Commerce. It is strictly a PR-type position which would allow Nancy to be involved with her local community, businesses, neighborhood and involves being part of or planning various events, gatherings, etc. in the area. The quote was taken out of context, omitting the "honorary" part and the word "elected" was inserted. Read More >>>

Tony Awards Q&A: Hank Azaria
"Well, it seems like everyone knows my voice from the Simpsons, so I’m happy now that more people are seeing my face too. This experience has really been the most fun that I’ve ever had in my entire life. I never knew that it could be like this. I’ve always wanted to do Broadway, but never dreamed or imagined that it would be in a musical. Honestly, this job has just been great fun." Read More >>>

Heaven's All Irish For Homer
Heaven, according to The Simpsons, is an Irish-themed bar featuring Riverdance, heavy drinking and fighting. But that’s just the Catholic version. In Protestant heaven, people in polo shirts spend eternity playing croquet and badminton. An episode broadcast last week featured the voice of Liam Neeson as an Irish priest, Father Sean, who converts Bart and Homer Simpson to Catholicism. Gordon Linney, the former Church of Ireland archdeacon of Dublin, said: “I found the depiction of the Protestant Heaven hugely offensive; it made us sound boring. The Catholics were having much more fun. “It is wrong for anyone to set out intentionally to cause offence, especially in religious matters, but sometimes religious people take themselves far too seriously and take offence too easily. We have survived screen and strife for over 2,000 years, so we’re not going to get upset about a cartoon.” Read More >>>

Bart Simpson For Mayor
Bart Simpson has been elected mayor of Northridge in Los Angeles - well his voice has, anyway. But before you hang your head at the latest bizarre American electoral decision, it is perhaps worth pointing out that it is actually a 47-year-old mother-of-two who has been elected. She just happens to voice the tearaway cartoon character. Nancy Cartwright provides the unmistakeable voice of Bart in the iconic The Simpsons animated series and admits her day job could help her as mayor. "Everyone finds it funny that Bart is the new mayor. I can influence people because I'm Bart Simpson," she said. "I live in a nice neighbourhood. But down the road there's drugs and gangs, stealing and illiteracy." Before turning her hand to politics Nancy tried out as an actor but found that voicing cartoon characters was more her thing. Luke Skywalker, Simpsons Fan
Was it good fun being in The Simpsons?

Mark Hamill: "The Simpsons helps me to understand the Star Wars fan thing. I am mad about the show. I was very excited to be asked to be on it, though I didn't really want to play myself - I had to pretend that I appear in public in my Luke outfit for money, which I've never done. I was shouting to the scriptwriters that I'd been on Broadway six times! My kids had to tell me to get over myself."

Gay Outing Tops Aussie Ratings
A heavily promoted 'There's Something About Marrying' was postponed by half an hour in Australia last night, but that didn't stop viewers tuning in to discover which character was gay. The first run Season 16 episode was the highest rating show on any station on Tuesday night, which had similar competition to Sunday's season finale in America. 1.5 million viewers tuned in to Channel Ten at 8pm to watch the episode, outrating every other show that night. The finale of Survivor Palau aired on competitor Nine at 8:30pm, but was only able to record an average of 1.4 million viewers. Contrasting figures to the ones in the report below. To give you an idea of the Australian figures, the highest rated show in Australia last year had 3.3 million viewers. Ten came third overall for the night while Nine came out on top.

The big result was Family Guy's huge figure of 9.3 million viewers, and the Simpson-nearing figure of 8.1 million viewers for American Dad. The night was a big one for all networks, with CBS airing the finale of Survivor Palau and ABC with the unstoppable Desperate Housewives. While 20 million people tuned into Survivor, ABC came home with the win overall for the night, with NBC and FOX sitting at third and fourth place respectively. Marge All-Time Greatest TV Mom
New York's Inside TV magazine has tapped Marge Simpson, mom of the dysfunctional "The Simpsons," as the No.1 All-Time Greatest TV Mom. Marge beat out June Cleaver ("Leave it to Beaver"), who was second; Clair Huxtable ("The Cosby Show"), No.3; Lorelai Gilmore ("Gilmore Girls"), No.4; and Marion Cunningham ("Happy Days"), who was fifth.

In an "exclusive interview" with Inside TV, Lisa Simpson had this to say about her mom: "After all these years, she still makes pearls and a beehive work." The publication's editors noted her ability to multitask. "She's a modern day June Cleaver who juggles bratty Bart, precocious Lisa and pacifier-addicted Maggie, while keeping hubby Homer in check." The full list of winners, with explanations, appears in Monday's edition of the publication.

Mike Reiss Wins The Crowd
Mike Reiss didn't earn his job as a writer and producer of "The Simpsons" by making clean jokes. On Monday, he showed that he's not afraid to make fun of George Bush, Jews, or sufferers of Tourette's syndrome. "Tourette's - it's a funny, funny disease," Reiss said. Reiss was brought to campus by University Union Speakers. Though his show was delayed when the venue was switched, Reiss still drew a large crowd. "It's always been my dream to come speak at Syracuse," he said. "Now that that dream has come true, I have to say ... Shit! I mean, of all the dreams I've had, why is this the one that gets to come true?" Reiss' raunchy sense of humor, punctuated with F-bombs and jokes not suitable for polite company, was well-received by the audience. Picking up on that, Reiss joked that "you guys are sick." 351st Outrates 350th Episode
The 351st episode 'The Heartbroke Kid' outperformed the 350th on Sunday night, with solid figures all around. Don't Fear The Roofer gathered 10.4 million viewers, while The Heartbroke Kid which aired immediately after brought 11.7 million viewers to Fox. In past instances where double features aired, The Simpsons always outrated itself in an 8:30pm slot over the 8:00pm slot. Fan reviews also suggest The Heartbroke Kid was the better episode, which was actually intended to be the 350th episode up until a month ago. The show helped boost figures for the return of Family Guy (11.9 million), while the second installment of American Dad had 8.5 million viewers, giving Fox its best numbers in the time slot in more than a year in key young demos. The network hit second place for the night, something they haven't achieved in a while. ABC came first, boosted by Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy.

Not Just A Pretty Voice
"In addition to his continuing duties voicing countless characters on The Simpsons, [Hank] Azaria is balancing a flourishing film career. He is also in the midst of enjoying his Broadway debut in Spamalot, the smash musical based on Monty Python and Holy Grail, in which he manages to channel the spirit of John Cleese without resorting to mere imitation as the macho knight Sir Lancelot, along with several other roles. He will be taking a leave of absence from Spamalot in June to begin production on the second season of Showtime's original series Huff, which he produces and stars in." Read More >>>
