Heaven’s All Irish For Homer

Heaven, according to The Simpsons, is an Irish-themed bar featuring Riverdance, heavy drinking and fighting. But that’s just the Catholic version. In Protestant heaven, people in polo shirts spend eternity playing croquet and badminton. An episode broadcast last week featured the voice of Liam Neeson as an Irish priest, Father Sean, who converts Bart and Homer Simpson to Catholicism. Gordon Linney, the former Church of Ireland archdeacon of Dublin, said: “I found the depiction of the Protestant Heaven hugely offensive; it made us sound boring. The Catholics were having much more fun. “It is wrong for anyone to set out intentionally to cause offence, especially in religious matters, but sometimes religious people take themselves far too seriously and take offence too easily. Ratings: Season Sixteen Finale

Season 16 ended on Sunday night with two new episodes, ‘Home Away From Homer,’ and ‘The Father, The Son, & The Holy Guest Star.’ In what was one of Fox’s last few hopes of increasing its performance in the May sweeps, an average of 8.7 million viewers watched The Simpsons over the 8pm hour, down on the previous two weeks. The big result was Family Guy’s huge figure of 9.3 million viewers, and the Simpson-nearing figure of 8.1 million viewers for American Dad. The night was a big one for all networks, with CBS airing the finale of Survivor Palau and ABC with the unstoppable Desperate Housewives. While 20 million people tuned into Survivor, ABC came home with the win overall for the night, with NBC and FOX sitting at third and fourth place respectively. The Father, Son, & Holy Guest Star

Originally due to air last month, The Father, The Son, & The Holy Guest Star will go to air at 8:30pm tonight as the final episode of Season 16. “After Bart is falsely blamed and then expelled for a mishap at the school-sponsored medieval festival, Fat Tony suggests to Marge that he enrol in a Catholic private school. After a rough introduction with a nun on his first day, Bart meets and instantly likes an Eminem-quoting priest named Father Sean. He shows Bart the cooler parts of the religion through graphic stories and comic books. Bart’s growing interest alarms his parents and ultimately drives Homer to visit the church. He, too, finds himself attracted to the religion after Father’s offerings of beer, pancakes and games. It’s up to Marge to bring her family back to their roots before it’s too late.” Don’t miss all the action from 8pm tonight.

Home Away From Homer Tonight

Tonight the final episodes of Season 16 will air in yet another double screening. The first episode which will air at 8:00pm is titled Home Away From Homer. “Financial trouble inspires Ned to rent his rumpus room to a pair of college-aged women, who end up running a soft-core webcam from the Flanders’ home without their knowledge. When Ned becomes the laughingstock of Springfield and moves his family away to a new town, “Humble, PA – Home of the Humble Figurines,” an unruly neighbour moves in next door to the Simpsons, forcing Homer to beg for Flanders’ return.” The episode will guest star Arrested Development’s Jason Bateman as himself. The fun doesn’t end there, another episode airs straight after at 8:30pm.

Following on from such treats as What Badgers Eat, Dorks Gone Wild, and Springfield Is For Gay Lovers Of Marriage, this Sunday’s new episode titled Home Away From Homer will feature a website set up featuring a webcam from Ned Flanders’ house. This time the website has been leaked before the airing of the episode. Sexy Slumber Party features a clip from the episode, as well as some promotional images from past scenes and media material. These sites were better when they had something to offer, but they’re still fun for those keen eyed fans.

Ratings: Star Is Torn/Doomsday

The Simpsons ratings were down about 20% from last week’s 350th episode double, still scoring a solid figure of 9.2 million viewers over the course of the hour in which the episodes A Star Is Torn and Thank God It’s Doomsday aired. At 9pm, Fox showed it made the right decision on bringing back Family Guy, the second episode for the fourth season, although down on last week, scored 9.7 million viewers. The show has outrated The Simpsons in the last two weeks. American Dad at 9:30 had just 18% of its Family Guy lead in tuning out, 8.2 million people tuning in overall. ABC ran home with the win for the night boosted by Desperate Housewives, while CBS’s Elvis special kept the network in second place. NBC came in third, while FOX was a distant fourth. The new Sunday lineup did cement FOX as the #2 network for the night among adults 18 – 49.

A Star Is Torn Airs Tonight

Another double new episode feature tonight, with just four new episodes remaining and two weeks to show them! The first episode tonight is titled A Star Is Torn and will air at 8:00pm. Here’s the rundown thanks to snpp.com. Lisa agrees to participate in a Krusty-sponsored “Li’l Starmaker” competition, but panics when another contestant (guest voice Fantasia Barrino) performs a better rendition of “Mockingbird.” Thankfully, Homer saves the day by hammering out a manipulative tune about Springfield that leads Lisa to victory. Thank God It’s Doomsday Tonight

The second episode for tonight, Thank God It’s Doomsday, airs at 8:30pm. An apocalyptic movie followed by three real-life omens cause a fearful Homer to research the rapture. Believing that he has deduced when the event will happen, he begins warning others as a way to secure his spot in heaven. After a skeptical Kent Brockman reports on Homer’s prediction of stars falling from the sky, there’s a Krusty Special blimp accident, and Homer attracts a slew of new believers. When the rapture never comes, a discredited Homer discovers an error in his calculations and returns to the Springfield Mesa alone, where he experiences a conversation with God. 351st Outrates 350th Episode

The 351st episode ‘The Heartbroke Kid’ outperformed the 350th on Sunday night, with solid figures all around. Don’t Fear The Roofer gathered 10.4 million viewers, while The Heartbroke Kid which aired immediately after brought 11.7 million viewers to Fox. In past instances where double features aired, The Simpsons always outrated itself in an 8:30pm slot over the 8:00pm slot. Fan reviews also suggest The Heartbroke Kid was the better episode, which was actually intended to be the 350th episode up until a month ago. The show helped boost figures for the return of Family Guy (11.9 million), while the second installment of American Dad had 8.5 million viewers, giving Fox its best numbers in the time slot in more than a year in key young demos. The network hit second place for the night, something they haven’t achieved in a while. ABC came first, boosted by Desperate Housewives and Grey’s Anatomy.

The Heartbroke Kid Airs Tonight

Straight up after the 350th episode, the 351st titled The Heartbroke Kid will go to air at 8:30pm. “Bart becomes addicted to junk food when a new vending machine is installed at Springfield Elementary. His steady diet of processed foods leads to a massive weight gain and health issues. When he’s unable to stick to his prescribed low-fat diet, the Simpsons stage an intervention and ship Bart off to “Serenity Ranch – A Forced Starvation Facility,” headed up by former food addict Tab Spangler (guest star Albert Brooks). While Spangler tries to help Bart overcome his obsession, Homer and Marge turn their home into a hostel for German travelers in order to pay for the costly Serenity Ranch.” Don’t miss the hour of all new Simpsons tonight on Fox.
