First Five Seasons DVD Box Set

Sharp-eyed reader Burak Haliloglu has given us this news. Are you ready for this? To coincide with the release of ‘The Simpsons Complete 5th Season’ DVD Box Set, ‘The Simpsons – The Complete First Five Seasons’ will also be released in a 19-disc set. It will retails for $239.90 although Amazon.com is selling it for the low price of $139.14. It features all of the goodies from the first five DVD sets, and there are no additional features to speak of at the moment. Amazon has the set listed for release on the same day as the Fifth Season on December 21st.

If you’ve been holding off with the DVDs this will make the perfect present. I’ve composed an awful mock cover above, I’m sure the official one will be sharper.

Treehouse Of Horror DVD Out

While the eyes of Simpsons fans were fixed on the release of the Season 3 DVD, another set has slipped under the radar. The Simpsons: Treehouse Of Horror collection has been released in North America today and is available for the RRP of $14.98. The single disc includes Treehouse Of Horror V, VI, VII, and XII, as well as a special Kang And Kodos featurette. Current reviews seem to share disappointment over the fact that only five episodes are included when it could have been so simple to include them all. But if you’re a Simpsons fan that just can’t wait for these episodes to come out on the season-sets, we recommend you purchase it from Amazon for the wee price of $11.23.

Third DVD Set Bows Big

First-day sales of “The Simpsons: Season 3″ DVD doubled those of the Season 1 DVD release and were about 20% ahead of the Season 2 box, according to Fox executives. Released Tuesday, it is estimated to have already sold through about 40% of its initial shipment of about 500,000 DVD units. A half-million units is a fraction of what major theatrical titles ship to retail outlets and video rental stores, but for the TV-to-DVD niche, it is a large shipment. The industry has found that seasonal DVD releases of series’ such as HBO’s “The Sopranos” can be rather lucrative because each box set retails for about $50, compared with about $20 for a major theatrical release. The increased profit margins and the length of time TV-to-DVD product tends to remain selling on store shelves has made TV-to-DVD products one of the hottest growth sectors in the realm of DVD, several industry sources said.

L.A. Simpsons DVD Signing

Fans of The Simpsons living in the Los Angeles area might want to trek down to the Virgin Records Megastore on Sunset Blvd. in West Los Angeles on Tuesday, August 26 to get their season three DVD sets autographed. Harry Shearer, who provides the voices of Mr. Burns, Smithers, Flanders, Principal Skinner, Reverend Lovejoy and Otto, together with David Silverman, the animation director of the series from the beginning, will be signing copies of The Simpsons Season Three DVDs from 7:00 p.m to 9:00 p.m.

Season 3: The Time Has Come

Suffering delay after delay, The Simpsons: The Complete Third Season DVD finally arrives in North American stores this week. The disc set has been arguably the most anticipated, with the growth of DVD usage since the previous release 55 weeks ago. Arriving in stores on Tuesday, the third season will retail as much as $49.95 US, while Amazon are selling it for $32.49 with free shipping.

Season 3: Amazon WRONG

Earlier this month we reported about a change in release date for the US release of the Season 3 DVD. TVShowsOnDVD.com have revealed that the new date released by Amazon.com was incorrect, so fans should not get too excited. From their comments, we can assume they have contacts at Fox who can back up their claims. “Fans of “The Simpsons” got excited recently when Amazon.com changed the release date of the set to July 30th (a Wednesday) and then to July 29th. All other retailers still listed August 26th as the release date, which is the proper date. We’re not sure why Amazon.com changed the release date of the set from the proper date to July 29th, but they are WRONG. Fox is going to contact them once again to have it straightened out. Bad Amazon, bad!” We have amended the date on our stickynotes box. Should there be any further developments we’ll be here to let you know.

Season 3 Pushed Forward?

We like to be as accurate as possible with our news, but in today’s story we’re unsure whether it’s fact or error that is involved. Amazon.com have changed their Season 3 DVD release date to July 30th, more or less a month earlier than its originally planned date. This is great news if it’s true. It’d be a hard error to make, being that it would require effort to change this date, so maybe Fox has pushed the release date forward due to demand or an unexpected earlier completion date. If anybody knows of other sites reporting a July 30th release, please let us know. Remember it was Amazon.com that first released official box art, so they’ve been nothing but reliable.

Season 3 DVD: August 26th

It’s the news you’ve been waiting for. The Simpsons: The Complete Third Season on DVD has been given a release date. Comingsoon.net reports today that “Fox Home Entertainment has set an August 26 street date for the release of the third season of The Simpsons on DVD. The studio had originally indicated season three would be out by June, then pushed the date back to July.”

The news comes from a reliable source which appear to have contacts with 20th Century Fox. “Fox has set a $49.98 suggested retail price for the four-disc collection of 24 episodes from the 1991-92 season. In addition to commentary, the set will include a discussion of animation with Matt Groening, Jim Brooks and Al Jean; outtakes from numerous episodes; audio of a table read for “Treehouse of Horror II”; an 11-song jukebox feature; and Fox promos for the show.”
