Conspiracy theorists continued to look for “predictions” in “The Simpsons” – for example, in the May 2010 series “Spying with Love”, users saw a “warning” about a secret nuclear strike by the US government on its own citizens, which was supposed to happen on November 6, 2010. In their opinion, the attack did not take place, since the viewers of the show had time to “expose” it. Then the media recalled the first “prediction” about 9/11.
From conspiracy to meme
In 2012, conspiracy predictions from The Simpsons were transformed into satirical ones. The Simpsons Did It blog has appeared on Tumblr, named after a 2002 episode of South Park, where the characters realize that all the plot twists were already in Matt Groening’s series. The authors of the Tumblr blog posted real-life cases reminiscent of episodes of the show. One of the earliest news stories was about a girl whose hands got stuck in a vending machine – the same thing happened to Homer in the 1993 episode “Marge on the Run.”
At the same time, the eponymous subreddit r / simpsonsdidit appeared on Reddit – they began to publish not only “predictions” of real life, but plot twists of other films or shows that were previously used in “The Simpsons”.
