“Simpsons predictions” phenomenon

After 2013, compilations with lists of the “weirdest predictions” of the animated series began to appear in the media – from smart watches, incorrect text auto-correction and new Star Wars to the presidency of Donald Trump and the coronavirus pandemic. Each “come true prediction” is discussed on social networks, the media make lists of “prophecies” from the show that may come true in the current year, and users have created infographics that combine the release dates of episodes and the dates when the “predictions” came true.

The “Simpsons predictions” phenomenon has even gone offline – a course on how the series predicts the future is being taught at the University of Scotland. The owners of the show are also aware of the meme, which is why the streaming service Disney + has made a collection of episodes of the show where they “predicted” the future.
